Tirit is a traditional Turkish dish that consists of roasted meat (usually lamb or beef) and crispy bread soaked in tomato sauce or broth. It is commonly served with yogurt on top and garnished with melted butter, garlic, and sumac (a tangy spice). Here’s recipe of Tirit;

How be made Tirit;

  • Step 1

    We heat ½ tea cup of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a pot, then add the meat and stir on high heat.

  • Step 2

    After frying until the meat absorbs its juice, we add 1 teaspoon of salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes and stir. Then we cover it and let it cook on medium heat.

  • Step 3

    After that, we take it off the heat, cut the bread into cubes, and place them on a tray. We put it in the oven and roast for about 15 minutes.

  • Step 4

    Heat 2 cups of meat broth and pour it over the bread that comes out of the oven while it is hot.

  • Step 5

    After resting for a while, we add garlic yogurt on top.

  • Step 6

    We mix 1 finely chopped red onion with 1 teaspoon of sumac and place it on top.

  • Step 7

    On top of it, we place the meat. We melt 3 tablespoons of butter and 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes and pour it over the meat. We can garnish it with parsley and serve, enjoy your meal.
